The Sacred Traditions of Africa

  Ngiafon abcd 44 comments

Listen closely and you will hear the steady beat of the drum, calling to the spirits of the ancestors. See the smoke rising from simple mud huts, carrying prayers to the heavens. This is the soul of Africa - her sacred traditions that have endured for thousands of years.
Born before the sands of time, these traditions are the living heartbeat passed from mother to child since the dawn of humanity. They are the rich spiritual heritage woven into the fabrics of brilliantly colored kente and dashiki. You can see them dancing in the flames of the bonfire and feel them in the pulse of the drum.
The missionaries came with their Bibles and their crosses, seeking to save uncivilized souls. But they could not grasp the profound wisdom flowing in streams older than the Nile. The people smiled and nodded, then returned to their ancient rites when the outsiders left.
Now the concrete buildings of progress rise up and the drumbeat fades as young people turn from the old ways. But the spirits remain, patiently waiting, and the ancestors sing softly to them in their dreams. The sacred traditions are never really lost, just slumbering, ready to awaken when the people remember who they are.
Africa, cradle of civilization, your traditions are written in sun-baked earth and star-filled skies. They beat eternal in the heart of every child you nourished at your breast. Wake them, remind them, guide them home. Your people are listening. Your people are ready. Speak to their souls once more.
